About Vuur en Vlees

Every year, De Reizende Man, organizes the KCBS International BBQ Contest Vuur en Vlees.
An American-style barbecue contest with a maximum of 24 teams.
The five categories in which will be competed are: chicken, ribs, pulled pork, brisket and Chef’s Choice. The team with the highest average becomes the Grand Champion. 

This year’s chef’s choice: a vegetarian main course from the barbecue. The jury must be able to see or taste this. The rest is entirely according to your own interpretation.

en Vlees

Every year, De Reizende Man, organizes the KCBS International BBQ Contest Vuur en Vlees.

For  Visitors

The event will take place on Sunday 30 June 2019 and can be visited by everyone. At 11.00 am the teams start making the dishes. Professional teams deliver dishes every half hour to the jury. This competition lasts until 2 pm. After that, the jury will withdraw and take a critical look at the submitted dishes. After they are ready, which will be around 4.30 pm, the award ceremony will take place.

When the teams are ready, our event continues. At 2.00 pm starts “Vuur en Vlees Traditionally”. On this area there are several stalls where you can find dishes from the barbecue. There will be a bouncy cushion for the children. They can also admire our animals, and of course you too. The entrance for this day is completely free! So bring your friends, family and / or acquaintances for a nice day!

The Program

All times given below will not change anymore. But it can happen that small adjustments are made to the competition schedule.

12:00 – The first dish will be served: Chicken

00.30 pm – The second dish will be served – Ribs

01:00 pm – The third dish will be served – Pulled Pork

01:30 pm – The fourth dish will be served – Brisket

02:00 pm – The fifth dish will be served – Chef’s Choice

04:30 pm – Award Ceremony BBQ Contest “Vuur en Vlees”

When the contest is ended, the event will continue. Inside the building our butcher will provide a demonstration deboning. So for those who have always wondered which part of the pig will be used for what kind of meat, this is the moment.

Last but not least, there will be live music throughout the afternoon to provide a cozy atmosphere. This year this will be provided by

For Teams

The teams are expected on  29 June 2019. It is possible to enter the venue at 11:00.
If you would  like to come earlier, then that is possible in consultation.

The inspectation of the meat will take place from 11:00 am to 05:00 pm, after which the Cooks meeting will be held. It is important that every team can prepare well for the next day.
That’s why the teams will retire to the tent at 00:00.

As with most KCBS competitions, the teams will take care of meat, barbecues, fuel, tents, work tables, etc. by themselfs. When needed, we can take care of all supplies against a fee.
Please indicate this in time.

Each team will be allotted a place of 6 x 6 meters, with facilities for electricity. Make sure that you bring your own power cables. At last, there will be a common water point on the venue.

Would you like to participate on Vuur en Vlees?
The registration fee for KCBS International BBQ Contest Vuur en Vlees is € 160.00 for each team, which must be paid within two weeks after registration.
The venue is suitable for a maximum of 24 teams. So be quick.

If you’re not able to come after registration, it is possible to cancel. However, we have to charge
€ 20.00 administration costs for each team. When there is no other team left to take over your place, the registration fee will not be refunded.

For the Jury

Every year De Reizende Man organizes the KCBS International BBQ Contest Vuur en Vlees and therefore jurors are needed.

Jury members are expected on 30th June 2019 at 09:00 am. They must then register inside. At 10:00 a meeting will take place with all members of the jury.

The teams are expected on 29th June 2019. It is possible to enter the venue at 11:00. Would you like to come earlier? Then that is possible in consultation.
